Pollutant Filtration Techniques

Cost-effective removal of emerging contaminants from drinking and groundwater

Project Lead: Yael Mishael

The Israel FEWture team is developing filtration techniques for drinking water using sorbents that remove organic pollutants, dissolved organic matter (DOM), and emerging contaminants like pharmaceuticals and PFAS.

We are focused on tailoring advanced sorbents for emerging pollutants, and will collaborate with Maryland FEWture team members to test this technology. In parallel, we are developing a filtration column based on low-cost sorbents for optimal DOM removal that may be employed in Tanzania and other developing countries.

We will explore potential obstacles and necessary measures for successful implementation in Tanzania, including social factors, public and personal acceptance, maintenance, policy, and sustainability.

Project objectives:

  • Develop sorbents for efficient PFAS removal
  • Filter PFAS from groundwater
  • Filter DOM from various water sources
