Objective 2: Research-to-Action
Our scientific research focuses on actionable and change-making outcomes.
A purely academic perspective on the role of research touts that research advances knowledge and secures the status of academics who publish amply and enjoy professional rewards for their record.
But that outdated model for rewarding productivity misses the main point: researchers want their insights to translate into clear progressive impacts in policy, best practices, and the well-being of target communities and ecosystems.
The Global FEWture Alliance carries out systems-based, interdisciplinary research that translates to technology-based and policy solutions at the food-energy-water-climate-health nexus. While we celebrate the research productivity of our collaborators, we also underscore the need to take the next step and bring that knowledge into relevance with ongoing activities in communities.
For example, our researchers turn research insights on water contaminants into specific guidance on how communities may filter wastewater, reuse water for agriculture, and even increase nutrition in food by safely reusing wastewater for crop irrigation.
