Training a new generation of expert farmers and forging international research alliances
Project Leads: Dr. Tomer Malchi and Dr. Eliezer Mwakalapa
Mbeya University of Science and Technology (MUST) is a public university located in Southern Tanzania, established as an institute in 1984 and upgraded to a university in 2012. In 2022, the university established an agricultural college which includes research facilities, an agricultural farm, and degree programs.
Our partners at Mbeya will work with CultivAid and the Global FEWture Alliance to support development of the agricultural college, and establish joint research projects with world-renowned universities.
The program will also scale up CultivAid's activities to Southern Tanzania in order to create a critical mass of trained and experienced agriculture experts, and establish a model of education delivery to support the regional agricultural ecosystem.
Project Objectives:
- Improve agricultural practices and knowledge infusion at the MUST farm
- Organize five trainings that transfer knowledge to MUST staff, students, and local farmers
- Establish a functional and replicable model for agricultural trainings
- Develop enabling research relationships among CultivAid, MUST, and the Global FEWture Alliance
