Study Abroad in Nepal 2026

UMD graduate students will have the opportunity to travel to Nepal for a short-term faculty-led study abroad course (3 credit-hours) during the last two weeks of June 2026. The course is focused on how the country is implementing food-energy-water-climate-health solutions to ensure future food and water security.

The trip will include visits to partner sites at 1) Kathmandu University (KU), Dhulikhel Hospital, and Sanskriti Farms and Research Center in Nepal, to learn about FEW nexus issues in these areas.

In Nepal, students will engage with Kathmandu University (KU) and Sanskriti Farms and Research Center, and meet with rural community members, as well as government and NGO organizations. Part of the trip will include visiting Sanskriti Farms and Research Center, and staying in the farm’s homestay, which is nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas. Students will also engage in a FEW nexus project during their visit to Nepal.

The Summer Amp experience will also offer an opportunity to broaden cultural and world perspectives and to improve communication skills through teaching and outreach.

The UMD Global STEWARDS program will cover all in-country expenses for trip participants. Students are responsible for their own airfare (~$2000) and visa (if applicable).

Ready for the Himalayas? To get started, complete this brief application form by March 16, 2026.
