Guangbin Li

Guangbin Li
Dr. Guangbin Li is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Maryland. He holds PhD and MS degrees in environmental engineering from the University of Arizona, and a BS in environmental engineering from the Harbin Engineering University, in Harbin, China.
Dr. Li and his research team at the N.E.S. Lab (Nutrient, Energy, and Sustainable) focus on sustainable water and wastewater treatment; the fate, transformation and remediation of emerging organic contaminants; the conversion of waste to energy and resources; chemical toxicity; and bioreactors. He has worked extensively with state and regional environmental departments and wastewater facilities to design, build, and investigate engineering systems and processes at different scales to treat water streams from various sources using chemical and biological
technologies.
His research has been sponsored by federal and state funding agencies, including the National Science Foundation (NSF), Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program (SERDP), U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA), U.S. Department of Energy (US DOE), The National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP), Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC), and the Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors (AEESP).
He is author or co-author of over 30 peer-reviewed journal articles and two book chapters on the topics of nutrients, heavy metals, and emerging organic contaminants in the environment. He is a member of the Editorial Board for Journal of Microbial and Chemical Technology and Biochemical and Frontiers in Environmental Science.
Research Interests: Water and wastewater treatment; waste-to-energy; remediation of emerging organic pollutants
Areas of Expertise: Environmental engineering; nutrient removal and recovery; water treatment; solid waste management
